Agent-Ready Storefront
A storefront that AI assistants can read and act on — both the ones browsing the store on a shopper's behalf and the ones pulling its data to answer questions elsewhere — so the brand is described by its own facts.
Definition
An agent-ready storefront is a store the AI assistants shopping for its customers can actually read. Two kinds of machine visitors matter: assistants that browse the store the way a shopper would — navigating pages, checking stock, comparing products — and assistants that pull the store's data to answer a question somewhere else, in ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity. An agent-ready storefront serves both with structure: clean product data, stated policies, brand facts, and answers they can quote.
Why it matters
Shoppers increasingly ask AI assistants about a brand before they ever land on its site, and those assistants recommend what they can read and verify. A store that isn't readable gets described from stale third-party guesswork — wrong prices, wrong variants, invented policies — or skipped entirely. Being agent-ready is the difference between being recommended accurately and being invisible in the conversations where buying decisions now start.
What makes a storefront agent-ready
Pages with real text rather than text trapped in images, structured product data down to variants and availability, policies stated where an assistant can quote them, machine-oriented files like llms.txt and agents.md, a Universal Commerce Protocol manifest so agents can discover what the store supports, and crawl access for AI user agents. The strongest version goes beyond readable to answering: an outside assistant can hand off to the brand's own live agent for real-time stock, fit guidance, and order status.
How to check where you stand
Two honest tests. Ask the major AI assistants the questions your buyers ask — what the brand sells, whether a product fits a use case, what the return policy is — and score the answers for accuracy. Then check the store's protocol surface: Kinect publishes a free UCP Test that reads any store's manifest, and builds agent-ready storefronts as one of its six revenue jobs — so when a brand shows up where AI shops, it shows up right.
